How To Play Rugby Union

Rugby has become a very fierce game that mostly men play. The game has two different forms known as the rugby union and rugby league. Each have their own unique ways to play. Rugby union is normally played in Europe and England while rugby league has become very popular in Australia and New Zealand. Below you will learn how rugby union is played.



Rugby union consist of two teams that have up to fifteen players on each team. Eight players are the ones that are chosen to have possession of the ball most of the time. Seven players are chosen to carry and move the ball. The game is started when the defensive team kicks the ball to the offensive team. Teams will then run with the ball until someone is tackled. Team mates are allowed to pass or kick the ball to other team mates, but are not allowed to pass the ball forward.



If you are tackled, the ball will then be open to any other player. The game will only be suspended if a rule is violated or two players from different teams grab the ball, or the ball goes out of bounds. If a rule is violated the ball will be thrown in by a player who did not break the rule. If the ball is out of bounds, a player from the other team will throw the ball back in. Five points are given when the ball touches the ground by the goal area, and another two points are available if the ball is kicked into the goal. Three points are given when the ball is kicked in the goal during the game.
